My favorite place I’m “dieing” to investigate now that I’m older is the house that I grew up in built in the 1700’s called the Jacob Keim Farmstead in Oley, Pennsylvania. It is talked about in many books, one being “GHOST STORIES OF BERKS COUNTY” BOOK ONE – It starts on page 78 and the man they interviewed is my father. The entire Keim family remains grounded to the land… now I too have many experiences, as well as legends about the farm!
My experiences included them walking above me every night in the attic, and then down the stairs that led from the ceiling (to attic) down to my room, AND the stairs end a foot from my bed! One girl named Sarah was kicked in the head by a horse in the barn, and her residual ghost has been seen from that moment in time. Doors are always opening and closing, the kitchen cabinets always slamming! When I was about 9 years old, I went alone back inside to get a barbie doll and was terrified, but knew I had to do it anyway. When I was walking out I heard a man say in my ear: “hello” and I ran out screaming to my Gramma!
Now legends include, Mr Keim burying his treasure along the road and its said to be protected by a phantom dog. It was reported in the 1800’s that a farmer walking his horse along the road, said a black dog with red eyes jumped out of nowhere and bit his horse in the throat killing it instantly.
My husband and I went up to PA to visit my Gramma. She has an Antique shop in the neighboring town of Pikeville. I took my husband James to show him the house and we were driving an old mustang with the top down-which would later come in very handy. We were walking the grounds and I was showing him the pond, spring house, barn, and old cider press, and as we were walking back up from the pond passing the barn, the door on the second floor opened as if someone was looking out to see what we were doing. So we went back to check it out and it was closed! Upon heading up to return to the car, two dogs (HUGE) and one being black started charging us and we had no clue where they came from because we just walked the whole farm! So we sprinted to the car in which we both jumped into the convertible and ducked down so they couldn’t get us. We looked up a minute later and they were GONE!
There are also two cemeteries across the street, one being where the entire Keim family was buried. We’ve seen ghosts roaming the fields at night across the street.
Like I said, LOTS OF ENERGY!
I’ve tried hard to get this place noticed b/c it’s amazing and just waiting to be explored by professionals. My Opa (grandfather) is apart of the council and got me in touch w/ the Head of Historical Preservation and the man who would allow access to the farm. He has given me permission and has invited me anytime I want, since my father was the caretaker for about 10 yrs and the last before they took it completely over.
If you’re interested, I can give you the man’s number.
Hope you can appreciate as much as I do!!
